Welcome to Sable Plains — where a world-class Big 5 Safari is being born.

Our reserve is rising from the wild South African earth — arrive into a story still being written.

Be among the first behind the scenes of an authentic Big 5 Private Game Reserve as it evolves:
new properties woven into the landscape, fences lifted, and the bush restored to its true wildness.

Big 5 roam here, but the magic lies in the elusive — sable and roan in big herds, aardwolves, caracals, servals, African wild cats, bat-eared foxes, secretary birds and rich birdlife all drawn to your doorstep in raw, unfiltered wilderness.

Just 3.5 hours from Johannesburg airport in a malaria-free haven and away from urbanization, Sable Plains feels timeless —
from pure bushveld to our River Lodge on the legendary Limpopo, every vista becomes an unforgettable memory.

Years from now, when the story of this place inspires generations, you’ll smile
and proudly say: “I was here at the beginning. I helped build this.”

This is more than a visit — it’s an invitation to belong.
Come. Stay. Shape the wild. Conserve the future.

Seminars & Retreats

Tailor your safari with bespoke seminars and retreats—unwind or recharge blending adventure, relaxation, and reflection, complete with 5-star culinary farm-to-table experiences featuring game hunted on our land.

Wild Frontier

Explore Sable Plains River Lodge — our wilder sibling, just 20 minutes from Sable Plains and perched right on the legendary Limpopo River. Walk on hippo and crocodile tracks along the bank, cast a line into waters few dare to touch, enjoy a picnic under the vast sky, or camp overnight with nothing but canvas between you and the wild — no fences, no guarantees, just the pulse-quickening frontier where anything can happen… and often does.

NOT JUST ANOTHER  LODGE

We are not just another Safari Lodge offering game drives and guided walks. Sable Plains is a working Nature Reserve — a raw, immersive frontier where guests step behind the curtain and become part of the real story of African wilderness restoration.

Here you don’t just observe the bush — you live it, shape it, and protect it. From firearms training, anti-poaching patrols, self-defence courses, advanced animal tracking to selective hunting, top-notch butchery, bush braais, farm-to-table cooking, tractor rides, and unforgettable nights in an open boma surrounded by free-roaming wildlife — these are not mere activities. They are life-changing, skill-building adventures that let you leave a mark on a landscape and a legacy on a continent.

ONGOING PROJECTS

Matlabas_edited.jpg

This project focuses on growing citizen science documentation across the Western Waterberg, covering the Matlabas and Crocodile Rivers, a stretch of the Limpopo River, and several key conservation areas. Large parts of this region remain poorly studied, leaving critical knowledge gaps about the species that live here. By encouraging the public to record what they see, the project will generate much-needed biodiversity data, highlight rare and threatened species, and reveal the true richness of this unique landscape.

Rainbox and Alexis.HEIC

A common question we get is "When is the best time to visit?". The most important factor is rain and temperature. Click below to view the rain history in our area over the last 40 years! This helps to make an informed decision based on how wet you are willing to get. Remember, rain creates a more lush bush which means more hiding places for our wildlife, but a more spectacular setting.
